Yard art found only because the GPS sent us into a residential section when we were looking for the Cattleman's Steak House.

Frankfort

Rebecca Ruth Candy store/factory.

Jerry is using his new rotary hot dog cooker.   We got to use the pavilion as it was windy and WET.
The Cooks, Mel, The Browns, Colberts, and Judds are in attendance this weekend.  We hope to see the Brooks today sometime.  We also hope to see some sunshine.  The girls are going to be doing some sewing.  Pat finished binding all the quilts she has worked on all year!  Now I wonder what I will get into with the sewing.....Oh yes, I know.  There are two quilts that have to be finished in the next two weeks....so May is when I will start of something new for me.  :)

Back into KY-Frankfort KYat Elkhorn Campground

No pictures today.  We left Asheville NC this morning after ten.  We drove along I-40 until we reached Knoxville.  I had a hard time not stopping at Gatlinburg.  We drove through the Smokey Mountains and enjoyed the Spring scenery.  The redbuds and dogwoods were beautiful.

We arrived this afternoon in Frankfort at the Elkhorn Campground.  We have all been moved from creekside to as far away from the creek as possible.  The creek has been out of it's banks and some of that water has remained on the campground side of the bank.  Now there is rain predicted on Friday and Saturday.....Hum.....We hope to stay high and dry this weekend.  The guys are golfing tomorrow and I am sure the girls will find something to do.

Our neighbors for the weekend have at least two children and they have shared their pets with us.  The cutest little black bunny rabbit.  It was allowing the kids to carry it around and was not complaining at all.  So I got to pet it too.

Take care.  Have a safe weekend.  May God Bless!

Please see sunroomquilts.com for the days not showing here.

KOA West in Asheville, NC
We arrived here about 2:30 or 3:00 this afternoon.  Left Charleston this morning about 10.  This is the campsite for this evening.  We ate on the picnic table.   There were NO bugs around!  Yeah, we left the No-See-Ums in South Carolina.
We arrived early enough that I got the laundry done in the laundry in the campground.  Things went smoothly and fairly quick on that front.  Jerry helped carry things back and forth across the driveway for me.  Loaded up three washers and three dryers..made quick work of that task.
We left Charleston via 526 around the city and picked up I-26 until we reached Asheville.  We were on I-40 for a short time before exiting for the campground.  Tomorrow we head off again on I-40.  We passed the entrance to the BlueRidge Parkway and I wanted to go that way....but not in the camper.  We traveled the other end of the parkway (SkyLine Drive) five years ago but it is not camper friendly.....at least not if you want to see anything but mirrors and lines on the road.
Anyway we had a beautiful day for traveling.  Had the windows open most of the trip except when it was too cool.
Tomorrow we  do the Smokey Mountains on the way to Frankfort, KY for a Sunny Memories Rally .
We had some 7% grades today and Jerry tells me we should expect some 10% grades on the roads tomorrow.  Camper still takes these nicely.  Of course, we are not trying to take them at full speed.
The rest of the pictures here are from the campground.  We traveled through red clay country and watched the trees change and enjoyed seeing the trees in various stages of leafing out.  Then of course we saw lots of pines especially around the red clay.

Dogwoods along the camground.

Would love to make this picture into a quilt.  Beautiful dogwoods.

That is all for today.

Check out the other website  for the past few days when I forgot to post to both of them.

Sunday, April 10 Charleston, SC

Just one of the doors on Church street where we parked.  We attended the First Baptist Church which is the oldest Baptist Church in Charleston.   Began in the 1800's.  After services we walked to the Battery along the water.  All the homes in the downtown area are so beautiful.  No front yards for the most part.  Gardens along the side of the homes and in back.  The guide books say they like for people to peek into the side yards through the ornate iron gates.  So we did and enjoyed ourselves with the views.  Behind this door is a porch running the length of the house.  The actual entrance to the house is another door along the porch.    Unusual to us but very much the style for Charleston.

Hum.....the police heard we were coming and sent a special team to be ready for us!  Actually they were preparing for a program commemorating the first shot of the civil war.  But I couldn't help taking the picture.

Jerry wondering where we were going to eat.  This was on the walk along the Battery.

Notice the windows and the designs over each level...they are different on each story.

Beautiful horse.  He seemed to be a young one and was ready for his guide to get going.

Farther along the walk.  The building in the background is out in the water on a pier...but looks almost like it is floating from some angles.

A walkway between buildings.

Okay, what is this flower?  I hope to find out tomorrow at the Plantation Tour.  There is a fragrance that reminds me of Hawaii.

We encountered this couple strolling along Meeting Street.

Calhoun Home - Garden area.
Well we did all the walking around and we also had lunch at Blossom Cafe.  We ate outside and had a wonderful brunch.  Then it was home again and the boys watched the Masters and I took a nap.  Then Becky and I made a grocery trip to Harris Teeters.  Always interesting to see what is in the local grocery, fancy one but it was still interesting.
Savannah Campsite....we left here on Saturday morning heading for Charleston Oak Plantation.

Savannah KOA lake had swans.  I heard the clerk tell another camper that they rescue the babies and keep them until they are large enough the gators won't feed on them before they are released.

Tea Plantation only tea plantation in US.  127 acres will eventually be planted.  It started as a test to see what plants would grow in the US.  Very interesting trip.  Good tea too.  Trip through the fields and a factory tour.

Proof we were here!

Angel Oak.  Several hundred years old.  Wow! Lots of trunk and Becky is standing among part of the branches.

Donald that I used to work with @McKesson took us to this wonderful place.  We all thought the food was better than the boarding house.  This one was a buffet.  We enjoyed the visit with Donald.  Thanks for coming out to see us and taking us all out what a treat!

A private garden on the way to the Mrs. Wilks boarding house for lunch.  We arrived about 9:45 and stood in line (well Keith and Pat stood while Jerry and Becky did some more touring).  Boarding house served family style.  As we were seated in groups of ten the fried chicken and side dishes were already on the table.  I don't think I have ever been at a table or even a buffet with as many side dishes.  All southern style and all good.  Even the rutabagas were good.  I did skip the okra and the greens.  It was banana pudding or peaches for dessert!  I don't think we will need much food the rest of the day.  We were there early enough to be in the first seating...well actually the third table to be seated at the 11 a.m. serving.  Don't go without cash it is all they take.
Out front while awaiting the opening of the boarding house,

Tybee Island Light House.  178 steps to the top.  You notice the picture is taken from the bottom not the top.  Plus there were no public restrooms.  Surely they did not expect me to stand in line to pay $8 to get inside to use a restroom before walking those 178 steps.  Nope....drank too much sweet tea at the boarding house for that long line.

Drove back to the campground on US 80 and 17.  This was one of the houses along that route.  We drove through a long, long stretch of road that had the trees covering the roadway so it was like driving trough a beautiful tunnel.

This fountain was at the end of the beautiful drive

It is past time for a long nap after all that food at lunch time and running around in HOT somewhat humid air.  The guys are watching the Master's Golf Tournament on TV.  It is really not too far from where we are but very comfortable to watch it from the couches rather than to be standing on the course.

Good Afternoon!  Have a great Friday afternoon/evening.  Tomorrow we are packing it up again and moving a couple hours north to Charleston.  Looking forward to seeing Donald again and he is sharing his barbecue place with us.  It will be a great day.

May God Bless!

Savannah!

Here we go starting our trolley ride.  They picked us up at the KOA South campground and brought us back at the end of the day.  It was a good trip.  Becky and I toured today and the guys went to the golf course.
A beautiful home with great flowers out front.

Oh my, Jan Watterson told me about the pecan pralines on River Street, I went in and came out with enough candy that I had to find a back pack at another store to carry my purchaes around the rest of the day.  The pralines were wonderful!  The above is a machine that makes salt water taffy.

I had no idea the shipping port was at Savannah.  On the way into Savannah from Macon there were many trucks carrying these cargo boxes.  Today I got to see them on the ship headed out to sea.  The waterfront was interesting.

Fabric store in Savannah.  Thank you Becky for walking across town to find this one.  Lots of interesting fabric and I actually restrained myself and came out without anything.

Hum....lots of one way streets and the pictures I took have lots of those in them.  These were taken from the Trolley when we really couldn't wait to see what the pictures had in them.  The live oaks and spanish moss are all over the city.  Lots of squares with fountains and statues throughout the downtown city area.
It made it easy to walk from one side to the other of town just taking in the different shopping areas and places to eat.

These walkways were down near the river.  The cobblestone roads in the area were neat to see a little harder to walk on,  The walls here were made in the 1700's.

Tomorrow the guys and gals are going out together.  We think we are doing Wilks Boarding  house for lunch and then to Tybe Island.  Of course, all that could change but those are the plans now.  I am extremely thankful I did not need an ER trip this morning as I hit the ground face down and hard when I tripped over a root next to the camper.  Jerry has now put a rug down to keep me from doing this again!

We had a beautiful day for golfing and touring.  Sure glad we are here before it gets really hot.  We actually had the air conditioner on this evening.

Good night and God Bless!

DAY 2 - Cassville to Savannah. Great trip.

We left the campground north of Atlanta about 9.  We pulled in to this campground about 2:30.  NO STOPS.  Gas fill up as we exited I-95 and the campground was just hop down the road.

The trip was great.  The lanes through Atlanta seemed to have shrunk since the last time I drove through there.  But we made it without any issues.  (Maybe it was because we are driving a larger vehicle...not that the lanes were smaller.)

We saw lots of water where we didn't think it would normally have been and also several work crews clearing downed trees along the way.

We settled in to the campground, had dinner with Keith and Becky and now are ready for a long restful night.

Becky and I will tour Savannah on the trolley while the boys are following the little white ball around a course near here.  They may have to come get us before the trolley would bring us back if we give out before the scheduled return.

Thanks to all who have given us information about what to see and where to eat.  We will try to get some of that in the schedule.  It seems like there is no way to go wrong with all the stuff there is to do here.

Of course we will be looking for Paula Dean and her sons to pop up somewhere on the tour! :)

Night.

On the Road AGAIN!

No pictures yet.
We are in Cassville, GA  about 60 miles north of Atlanta just off I-75.  It is a KOA campground.  We would recommend it for anyone going along this route.  Great sites and oh so quiet even though we are just a short distance off the interstate.

We are traveling with Keith and Becky.  We are NOT traveling together as going down the road behind each other but we are staying at the same campgrounds and will tour Savannah and Charleston together.  The boys are hoping to get in some golfing while escaping from some of the tourist things.  We hope they go with us on some of the trip so we don't hear:  "I wish I had seen that."

I am looking forward to visiting with a friend that I worked with in my McKesson days.  He lives near Charleston.

Today's ride was beautiful.  We had a little bit of wind but not much at all.  God is good.  Other than for work commitments we would have been trying to drive in horrible weather that was all across our route yesterday.  Today the skies were blue with whispy clouds.  We got through three major cities with nothing more than a short slowdown in one of them.

Keith and Becky fixed the main courses of dinner and we added appetiser and dessert.

What a wonderful end to a perfect travel day.  Tomorrow it is through Atlanta and then a left at Macon...I think.  The navigator keeps me on the right roads.   And even he didn't need a map today.

The dogwoods are in full bloom here in GA.  The redbuds were beautiful throughout Tenn, but we noticed them mostly along I-24 after we left Nashville,

Fuel prices:  It is great for us to be following Becky when she can scout out the best fuel prices for us as.  She found us a 3.45 per gallon just out of Nashville.

Take care.
