KOA West in Asheville, NC
We arrived here about 2:30 or 3:00 this afternoon. Left Charleston this morning about 10. This is the campsite for this evening. We ate on the picnic table. There were NO bugs around! Yeah, we left the No-See-Ums in South Carolina.
We arrived early enough that I got the laundry done in the laundry in the campground. Things went smoothly and fairly quick on that front. Jerry helped carry things back and forth across the driveway for me. Loaded up three washers and three dryers..made quick work of that task.
We left Charleston via 526 around the city and picked up I-26 until we reached Asheville. We were on I-40 for a short time before exiting for the campground. Tomorrow we head off again on I-40. We passed the entrance to the BlueRidge Parkway and I wanted to go that way....but not in the camper. We traveled the other end of the parkway (SkyLine Drive) five years ago but it is not camper friendly.....at least not if you want to see anything but mirrors and lines on the road.
Anyway we had a beautiful day for traveling. Had the windows open most of the trip except when it was too cool.
Tomorrow we do the Smokey Mountains on the way to Frankfort, KY for a Sunny Memories Rally .
We had some 7% grades today and Jerry tells me we should expect some 10% grades on the roads tomorrow. Camper still takes these nicely. Of course, we are not trying to take them at full speed.
The rest of the pictures here are from the campground. We traveled through red clay country and watched the trees change and enjoyed seeing the trees in various stages of leafing out. Then of course we saw lots of pines especially around the red clay. |
